Definition

A flat-plate solar collector is a glazed, insulated panel containing a selectively coated absorber with fluid channels that converts sunlight into heat for hot water, heating support or pool heating. Good models reach peak efficiencies of 75–82 % and typically operate at 40–80 °C. It is the most widely installed solar thermal collector type and the basis of most thermosiphon and pumped solar water heaters.
