Definition
GWP is a measure of how much heat a gas traps in the atmosphere over a set period (usually 100 years) compared with the same mass of CO2, which has a GWP of 1. Refrigerants range from about 3 for propane (R290) to 675 for R32 and around 2,088 for R410A. EU F-gas rules use GWP thresholds of 150 and 750 to decide which refrigerants may be used in new equipment.
